Explore Inc. is looking for a Survey Assistant to join our Geomatics team.
This is an entry-level or developing position and a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, wants hands-on work and is interested in building a career in surveying and geomatics.
You’ll work alongside experienced Survey Crew Chiefs on a wide variety of projects throughout Alberta and Western Canada, including oil and gas, construction, environmental, geotechnical, geohazard and LiDAR-supported projects.
Our preference is for someone based in Peace River, but we’re also looking for candidates in Grande Prairie and Edmonton.
As your skills and experience grow, you’ll be given more responsibility and opportunities to learn different types of survey work.

Key Responsibilities
Working with a Survey Crew Chief, you’ll assist with:
- GPS/GNSS and total station surveys.
- Setting up and operating survey equipment.
- Survey staking, measurements and field data collection.
- Field notes, sketches and survey records.
- Utility locates and sweeps.
- Preparing and organizing equipment for field assignments.
Equipment & Field Support
- Keep survey equipment and vehicles organized and properly maintained.
- Safely work around trucks, ATVs and other field equipment.
- Follow Explore’s safety procedures and help maintain a safe worksite.
Learning & Development
- Work alongside experienced Survey Crew Chiefs to develop surveying and geomatics skills.
- Learn modern survey technology and equipment.
- Take on additional responsibilities and learn different types of survey work as skills and experience develop.
To Be Considered, You Will Need
- Dependable, hardworking and willing to learn.
- Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather and terrain.
- Able to work safely, follow direction and work as part of a two-person crew.
- Organized and careful with equipment.
- Comfortable travelling and working out of town.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Post-secondary education in Geomatics or Surveying is an asset but not required.
Previous surveying, construction, oil and gas, utility locating or other outdoor field experience is an asset, but survey experience is not required for the right candidate.
Location & Schedule
This is a field position with travel throughout Alberta and other parts of Western Canada. Projects can include remote locations, industrial sites and challenging terrain.
Schedules vary by project and may include extended shifts, weekends and out-of-town assignments. Wherever possible, we work with our field staff to balance project requirements with the amount of field time and time at home they’re looking for.
