Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Decision-Making:

  • Take on the senior engineering role the Geohazard Division by planning, directing, and overseeing pipeline geohazards projects, currently primarily related to water crossing or slope stability projects. Enjoy the autonomy to make critical decisions, backed by a supportive leadership team, as you chart the course for the Geohazard Engineering business unit.

  • Bring new ideas to not only grow the business and push innovation but to ensure the business unit is structured in such a way to successfully execute during a phase of rapid growth.

Technical Expertise:

  • Bring your expertise in geohazard engineering to the forefront, ensuring technical excellence and adherence to industry best practices.
  • Evaluate, design, and implement site-specific assessments and solutions for geotechnical concerns associated with construction safety and terrain stability and hydrotechnical concerns associated with water crossings.
  • Lead and decide on mitigations for geohazard conditions along the pipeline alignment.
  • Mentor/supervise junior professionals in similar projects.

Project Management:

  • Collaborate with and provide direction for GIS Data Analysts in data compilation and review pertaining to pipeline geohazards projects.
  • Supervise geotechnical field investigations for geohazards evaluation.
  • Perform data collection required to support design.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Work with other business unit managers and the leadership team to help shape the future of the company.
  • Prepare technical documents/reports and provide geotechnical recommendations for topics such as slope stability, slope remediation, and water crossing low depth of cover on pipelines.
  • Communicate with clients, third-party reviewers, sub-consultants, and internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage strong relationships with new and existing clients, field personnel, government and regulatory agencies, and expand the internal network.

Business Development:

  • Develop and manage strong relationships with new and existing clients.
  • Assist internally in preparing proposals, budgeting, and scheduling.

To be considered you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or Geological Engineering from a recognized university or Diploma in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering Technology, with 10 years progressive technical experience.
  • Registration with APEGA as a P.Eng or P.Geo.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of geohazards related to hydrological and geotechnical engineering.
  • Detailed knowledge of the geotechnical and geological aspects of remediation design work for water crossings and slopes
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, including strategic thinking and autonomy in decision-making.
  • Experience as a Project Manager in a geotechnical investigation, particularly pertaining to slope stability assessments and monitoring, as well as hydrology and scour assessment calculations.
  • Strong people skills and an ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written), teamwork and mentorship skills are essential.
  • Proven client relationship management skills to develop and manage strong relationships with new and existing clients.
  • Field experience is a bonus.
  • Class 5 Drivers License.
